From the President

Hi everyone!

Well it’s getting to the business end of Les Misérables with all departments including the fabulous cast working their little tuches off to get the show up and running.  We had an exciting opportunity to perform at the community opening of the Drum last week and we did ourselves proud.  I opened the second act with a song from Gypsy; Natalie, who will appear in Les Mis as Fantine, sang her song I Dreamed a Dream and Ben (Marius) and Beth (Cosette) sang their duet A heart Full of Love.  I’m sure after these two songs there was not a dry eye in the house!  Well done to them and to Laura and Aaron for accompanying on the night.  Further to that, the production team had an in-depth tour of the Drum this week so we could see, first hand, the space we will be moving into.  To say we are excited would be an understatement!!!

We have rehearsal camp this weekend in Mt Evelyn and the final few weeks of rehearsal before we bump in on Easter weekend.  Publicity is going to be blasting your way on radio, in local papers and on the net and tickets are selling like hot cakes through The Drum!  Don’t forget though, word of mouth is always the most effective form of advertisement so get talking!  Make sure you don’t miss out on this very special event... This show is definitely not to be missed!

If you’d like to catch up with us and meet some of the cast, we are holding a trivia and games night this Friday night 24th March and the theme, in keeping with Les Mis is “Rouge et Noir” …taken from the song sung by the students prior to their battle on the barricade.  So come dressed in theme colours and have a cheap, fun night out!

We are always happy to see new faces and welcome back the “old faithfuls”… it’s your company so enjoy the friendship and fun of being an active part of it!!!  Speaking of which, if you’re at a loose end on the weekends, we are at “The Palace” all day Saturdays and Sundays so if you’d like to put your mark on Les Mis (with a paint brush, hammer or drill that is!) rock up and lend a hand!

Thinking further down the track, DTC’s second season show is West Side Story. We have been busy interviewing for production team members and have come up with a great group of people... we warmly welcome Owen Collier in his directing debut, Robbie Carmellotti with his debut as choreographer and Andrew Head with a return to MD after an absence of three years.  More info will follow but for now, take care and see you at Les Mis!!!

Cheers

Victoria Zainal, DTC President

Les Misérables

Dandenong Theatre Company is abuzz with our new production - Les Misérables.  Widely claimed to be the greatest musical of all time, Les Misérables is more than a musical. It is a story of tragedy, beauty and passion.  It illustrates a huge range of human qualities and emotions skillfully woven into an extremely powerful and polished production.  Based upon Victor Hugo's timeless classic novel, Les Misérables tells of the life of Jean Valjean, from his time in prison, then as an escapee, later as a respected member of the community, and finally as a fugitive.

The dramatic score includes the songs At the End of the Day, On My Own, One Day More, Master of the House, Stars, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and Do You Hear The People Sing?  Dandenong Theatre Company's production, with its strong cast, striking sets, spectacular lighting and 22-piece live orchestra, is guaranteed to impress!
