Stage Chat

Special edition

December 2003

From the President

Welcome to a special Christmas/New Year edition of Stage Chat, keeping you informed of what’s happening at DTC!  Merry Christmas to all from all of us at DTC.  We hope you have an enjoyable holiday season (if you are fortunate enough to have holidays) and return replenished for another exciting year!

Last month we held our AGM and elected a new committee for 2004.  The DTC committee now consists of:

Stephen Oakes

President

Kym Davies

Vice-president

Vicki Zainal

Secretary

Noel Legg

Treasurer

Steven Legg

General committee

Sam Lee

General committee

Congratulations to the new committee, and thanks for their enthusiasm looking toward the new year.  Thanks also to the outgoing committee members, particularly Fiona Oakes and Simon Wilksch who have both served the company for several years.

In January, traditionally a quiet month for theatre and entertainment, we will present our play, It's My Party (And I'll Die If I Want To), an amusing and clever Australian play by Elizabeth Coleman.  Directed by Sharon Maine and with a strong cast, this play promises to be an entertaining occasion.  To book tickets, please call our ticket secretaries, Bill and Natalie Irvine on 9790 0149.

As a welcome acknowledgement of the increasingly high standard of DTC productions, several nominations from the Victorian Theatre guild were recently received:

·        Direction, Matt Lockitt, Gypsy

·        Design concept, Chris Curran, Gypsy

·        Cameo performance, Lynne Hobbs, Gypsy

·        Cameo performance, Robert Harvey, Gypsy

·        Choreography, Scott Hili, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

The guild judges were also sufficiently impressed by our production of Gypsy that they asked us to perform a song from the show at their awards ceremony which was held on December 13th.  The song we performed was Gotta Get a Gimmick, featuring several of the female ensemble members.  It was very well received by the impressively large audience.

Although we did not win any awards, the nominations alone are a testament to the efforts of the above-named individuals and the teams that worked with them.  Congratulations to all those involved with these productions.  For a list of winners, please refer to the Guild website at www.musictheatreguildvic.org.

DTC has also been successful with a large number of nominations in the Lyrebirds Awards.  Congratulations to all those nominated and to those involved with the relevant productions.  For a list of nominations, please refer to our website.

In April and May, 2004, we will present our first musical for the year.  This time we are presenting Carousel, a favourite by Rodgers and Hammerstein.  Our final rehearsal for the year was held on December 18th, and it was a very energetic and enjoyable occasion!  Rehearsals for Carousel resume on February 3rd, 2004.

Stephen Oakes, DTC President
