Stage ChatSubscriber edition August 2004 |
From the PresidentHello all! It’s been a long time since our last newsletter, so we have quite a bit to report. In April and May we presented our first musical for the year. Carousel, a favourite by Rodgers and Hammerstein was received well by audiences, and we have received some very positive feedback about it. There were some innovative ideas and concepts incorporated in to it which did not go unnoticed by our audiences’ keen and perceptive eyes and ears! Congratulations to the cast, crew and team involved with the production. I would like to thank the production team of Tony Bird, Kate Boyd Mulheran and Andrew Head who all contributed towards making Carousel an enjoyable production to work on. Special thanks must also go out to my co-production coordinator Victoria Zainal. What would we do without her!? We have been rehearsing solidly for our second production for 2004. Entitled There’s no Business Like Show Business, this thematic concert has been compiled by Scott Hili. Many of you will remember Scott from our first musical production last year of Gypsy. He also directed our second show of 2003, the colourful and energetic Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Scott is also directing and choreographing There’s No Business Like Show Business and the cast is working energetically and happily towards realising his vision. We are joined this time by Adrian Tamburini as musical director. This is Adrian’s first production with us, but he is a very talented and competent musician in his own right and he has the cast singing to their potential. See his biography elsewhere in this newsletter. At the very least this show promises to be a fun evening of music, dancing and singing. With Scott’s direction though, (not to mention Adrian’s band), I’m sure we can expect a little more than that! The cast for …Show Business is listed elsewhere in this newsletter. Whether you have a friend in the cast or not, why not come along and experience this unique event! Please see our website for details, or call me on 9584 7982 to organise tickets. Finally, I would like to announce that our first major musical production for 2005 will be Barnum! Currently we’re looking for a director, musical director, choreographer and many other talented individuals to help us bring this production to the stage. We will have more information regarding the production team in the next newsletter. Alternatively, you can come to a performance of …Show Business and we will have information in the foyer regarding Barnum! That’s all for now – Do please try and get to our trivia night on Friday 13th – have some fun and help ensure that our friendly theatre company can continue to provide quality theatrical entertainment!
