From the President

It seems almost superfluous to say that it has been a very busy few months for DTC. In January we presented our play, The John Wayne Principle. We have been rehearsing and preparing for our upcoming production of Gypsy. We are also undertaking preliminary preparations for our September production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

This promises to be an exciting year, with Gypsy rehearsals going very well and an exciting vision for Joseph in the pipeline. See elsewhere in this newsletter for further information about each of these productions.

We also hope to have another JETS show this year. JETS is the name of the youth wing of DTC. It is for people aged 8 to 18. Anybody who is interested in directing or producing our youth production this year is encouraged to contact us as soon as possible!

Stephen Oakes, DTC President

DTC’s Gypsy

DTC’s next major production will be Gypsy, to be performed from April 25th to May 10th. Rehearsals are going very well, the cast is very talented and this promises to be an exceptional production.

Gypsy was written by Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents. Set during the vaudeville era, it tells the story of a relentless stage mother who travels the country with her daughters June and Louise, trying to make them stars. On the way they meet Herbie, who agrees to become their manager. While June and Louise would prefer their mother to settle down and marry Herbie, Rose is determined to pursue her dream. She does so until they are booked into a burlesque house by mistake - Rose's very last chance to achieve stardom for one of her daughters.
